Pro-Discipline, Anti-Death.
Some people believe in freedom of abortion, but the abolishment of the death penalty. Many people against the death penalty believe ‘killing someone is wrong, even if the government does it.’ In that case, imprisoning someone is wrong, even if the government does it. If a serial killer killed 12 people, yet, I take justice into my own hands and murder him before the police arrives, takes him to jail, get him sentenced to death, and eventually executed, I’d get arrested and tried for murder. However, if I captured him and put him inside a cage in my basement, chances are, I could be tried for kidnapping or any possible duress offense. Technically, when someone gets sentenced to prison, they get put inside a cage for the rest of their lives, or either a set amount of time. Therefore, if murder is wrong, holding someone against their will is also wrong. Yet, most people against the death penalty don’t understand that, if someone else other than the government imprisons an individual, (s)he is committing a crime. Therefore, if the government’s punishment methods are wrong, don’t stop only at *capital* punishment, consider the entire prison system. People that received the death penalty committed the crime for their selfish reasons, and could possibly do it again. However, when the government executes one that received the death penalty, they’re not killing for selfish reasons; they’re killing prisoners to issue punishment for their failure to comply with the law.
